Gaiola Island Italy

Bridge of Gaiola Island Italy.

GETTING THERE

    • Gaiola Island Italy is located just off the southern coast of Posillipo, in the region of Campania.

    • There are 61 cities around the world that fly direct to it’s closest airport, Naples.

    • I would recommend flying from another city in Italy, like Rome, so that you can experience its beauty and architectural history. Alitalia flies four times a day from Rome to Naples.

    • It is a half an hour drive from Naples airport to the coastline near Gaiola island.

    • The island is only 30 meters from the coastline, so why not swim out to it!

ABOUT

    • Gaiola is made up of two smaller islands connected by a bridge, one of which has a single villa.

    • A few Roman structures lie under the water and now are home to marine life.

    • The island is thought to be cursed following the premature deaths of most of its owners and occupants spanning many decades.

I love how accessible this island is, being so close to the shore. When you see photos of its bridge you feel like you are looking in to another world, but it is only from aerial shots that you can see how close this little haven is. Despite stories of its cursed past I would love to climb around these rocky islands and explore its mysterious nooks. Of course, no visit would be complete without a walk out on to the bridge. If you are heading to Naples you can check out my other favourite attractions in nearby Capri, Positano and Sorrento.
